Drummer |
1976 : First meeting with the world of percussion, “I want to play drums” I cried, seeing the Vancouvers Brass Bands on a small overexposed super 8 film. The demand was immediately rejected by the assembled family. While waiting to be able to play on a drum kit, I practised on clay bongos with chopsticks. I tentatively tried to become a musician by having a go at playing a concert flute.
1982 : I joined a garage band as a drummer without a kit. I sold my flute for a small Morris kit, despite my parents’ protestations . The garage band “Johnny Van Houtten and his chocolates” began their adventure playing rock, influenced by Led Zeplin, Van Hallen, and the Police … I registered at the Monthléry (91) School of Music to learn percussion in depth with other musicians… ecstasy!. My influences are marked by Weather Report, Chick Corea and other jazz-rock groups, which led me to explore jazz and its origins.
1991 : After all these trials, rehearsals and other musical experiences, I returned to rock for a trial concert with a trio “Them or Us”, in totally professional conditions, and I was hooked: I wanted to be a musician!
1992 : Exploring the world of progressive rock with the band Caffeine; jazz with the Rigodon Quartet, a cover band for cafe concerts, jazz clubs etc. … I became drawn to teaching and obtained a post teaching percussion at the Brunoy School of Music.
1996 : I decided to stop percussion for health reasons. I sold everything to blow into a trombone, scratch the strings of a bass guitar … I jammed with a few groups, playing Funk as a trombonist, but watching other drummers playing, I think …..something is missing!
2001 : Returned to percussion for a short period.
2005 : I moved to Lozère, but the kit remained in boxes for lack of space.
2007 : I was lent a room to install my kit and set to work! I met new people in the Lozère valleys, forming a guitar and drums duo improvising music, this duo quickly turned into a trio with clarinet and became the “Lou Fred Mo Trio.” I started teaching percussion with the Lozère Federation of Music Schools, a real joy for me. I joined “Funky’s Teuf” band with its sense of fun, as well as another rock trio “The Invisibles”.
2008-2009 : The group “Bas des Pattes” (Hands off) were looking for a drummer. A lot of work to integrate the pieces awaiting me, not easy to replace a good drummer in a band. With them I discovered a new sound, dance and traditional music.
