Joel Forrester

Pianist and composer

Joel Forrester, 65, pianist and composer, has authored some 1,600 works, including the Off-Broadway satire FASCIST LIVING, the 8-hour piano piece INDUSTRIAL ARTS, and the theme to the American popular radio program FRESH AIR.  He maintains a quintet in New York called Joel Forrester”s SECRET IDENTITY.  A busy pianist, he had 29 engagements in the month of June alone, all featuring his own compositions; among these 29 was a week of outdoor concerts behind New York’s 5th Avenue Library, his monthly concert with silent film at the Gershwin Hotel, and his weekly gig at Grace Gospel Church.  In Paris, he has played for silent film at the Louvre, the Centre Pompidou, and the musee d’Orsee.  Forrester received the personal encouragement of Thelonious Monk.  And, as a young man, he composed music for early films of Andy Warhol.
