Juliette de Massy

Juliette de Massy

Soprano

Juliette began singing in the Cévennes with Maurice Bourbon and later studied at the Conservatory of Lille and then at the London Guildhall School of Music in the class of Susan McCulloch, with whom she continues to improve, as well as with Howard Crook for baroque and classical repertoire. She has the opportunity to work with artists such as Sandrine Piau, Susan Manoff, Sarah Connolly and Emma Kirkby.

Juliette is in demand with various groups and repertories and tries to keep this eclecticism. As a soloist and chorister she increasingly practices opera and notably will play Berta in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, conducted by Amaury du Clausel.

In the Baroque and Renaissance repertoire, she includes, amongst others, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas and Venus and Cupid in Purcell’s King Arthur and with the Biscantor! ensemble has created a Monteverdi Tango concert!. In Metamorphoses, directed by Maurice Bourbon, she will record two Masses by Josquin Desprez as a soprano solo in 2011.

Juliette, who is also a musicologist specialising in music of the Weimar Republic, is very interested in contemporary music and music of the inter-war years to the present. Hanns Eisler is also one of the favourite composers of the duo Misuk! and Juliette has interpreted, for example, the Apparitions of George Crumb in London and created the role of Y in the City of Dead by Aurélien Dumont.
