Programme detail

The concert consists of two of Josquin’s “Roman period” masterpieces displaying his complete mastery, in the “Gunman masses”, Missa L’homme armé sexti toni and Missa L’homme armé super voces musicales.

Both works use the popular theme of the gunman, well known during the Renaissance. Josquin wittily uses mastery of clever constructions: several major and minor chords, diverse superimposed rhythms, multiple mensuration canons, and regression as will Bach two centuries later. Josquin alternates depth and lyricism in these masterworks… Dazzling!
